Hormonal Fluctuations

Women experience hormonal shifts throughout their life cycle, such as acne, cramps, PMS, menopause. These fluctuations can disrupt patterns and quality of sleep.

For example, progesterone levels fall before menstruation, which can lead to insomnia and anxiety. Pregnancy brings fatigue and frequent bathroom breaks, impacting sleep continuity. During menopause, hormonal changes can trigger night sweats, hot flashes, and mood swings, further disrupting sleep.

Biological Differences

Women tend to have a higher percentage of body fat than men, which can impact breathing patterns. This can increase the risk of sleep apnea.

Additionally, women might have more sensitive central nervous systems, making them more susceptible to stress and anxiety, which can interfere with sleep and disrupt the normal sleep phases.

Social & Cultural Factors

Often, women should multiple responsibilities both at home and work.

Women are more likely to be caregivers for children or elderly family members.

Women face gender-specific societal pressures leading to higher stress and less time for relaxation.

All of these social and cultural factors negatively impacts both the sleeping patterns and the quality of sleep.

Every individual experiences sleep differently. Genetics, medical conditions, lifestyle choices, and environmental factors all play a role in sleep quality, and these factors vary greatly from person to person, regardless of gender.
