What is a Dental Implant?
A Dental Implant is a revolutionary, surgical device that permanently replaces your missing teeth.
Dental Implants are a safe and proven replacement for your tooth root, which is the foundation of your natural tooth.
A single implant is used to replace a single tooth and supports a dental prosthesis such as crown, bridge, or a denture. Implants come in many forms - single, multi, full arch, and mini.
Benefits
Implants deliver several, life-changing benefits including:
Natural Looks: Feels completely natural and gives you a regular smile
Better Speech: No more slurring, lisping, or whistling sounds.
Durability & Longevity: They are built to last without needing frequent repair or replacement.
Improved Oral Health: Supports neighboring teeth and preserves jawbone
No Dietary Restrictions: Enjoy your favorite foods. Eat like normal!
How do Implants Work
Dental Implants are surgically placed in the upper or lower jawbone beneath the gum line. Via a biologic process called osseointegration, implant materials such as titanium fuses and forms an intimate bond with your natural bone. Hence, it becomes an anchor and provides a stable base for your replacement tooth.
Implants permanently replaces the root of one or more of your missing teeth. Effectively, it functions the same as the original, natural root. Over the implant, a dental prosthesis (crown, bridge, denture) is then placed.
Structure
Dental implants are typically constructed from titanium, which is a strong yet lightweight metal and is biologically compatible. Alternatively, it can be made of Titanium alloy or Zirconium, a ceramic material.
Common & Well-Accepted
In 1952, Swedish professor Per-Ingvar Brånemark accidentally discovered the phenomenon of osseointegration - the fusion of titanium with bone. This revolutionized implant technology. In 1965, he placed the first dental implant in a human.
Over 3 million people in the US have implants with over 90% of implants lasting 10 years or longer.
Implants are now a well-accepted tooth replacement option.
